Building Cultural Tech Products
July 20, 2025Developing products for specific cultural communities requires sensitivity, research and humility. When I started Nigerians.ca and Names of God, my goal was to provide tools that empower people to connect with their heritage and with each other. But building cultural tech isn’t as simple as translating content -it’s about creating an experience that feels authentic and respectful.
In this post I’ll share some of the mistakes I made and the guidelines I now follow when working on cultural projects. From engaging community members early to prioritizing accessibility and speed, there are concrete steps you can take to ensure your products resonate with the people they’re meant for.
More stories and examples will be added soon. In the meantime, check out the existing projects and let me know what you’d like to learn about.
